It’s been just over 40 years since one the world’s most beloved Italian intellectuals, Italo Calvino, passed away following a stroke in his Roccamare holiday home. On the anniversary of his death (September 19) we saw several creatives show their appreciation for the esteemed novelist and short story writer, including Altpick member Ivan Canu. Published in “L’Italia della Liberazione in 50 portraits” by Paolo Mieli and Francesco Cundari, his art also honours the style of another lost legend, French comic book artist Moebius. Subsequently, Ivan’s illustration was expertly brought to life by animator Giacomo Manzotti.
